Some Tips About Baby Spilled Milk

Published by Dailys 2024-03-06

Infant spillage refers to the situation that after feeding the baby, if the baby is laid flat on the bed immediately, milk will flow out from the corner of the baby's mouth. What's more, they will spit out all the milk they drink. Milk spilling in babies is a very common phenomenon, and the milk spilling is mainly because the baby's stomach is relatively shallow, and the ring sphincter in the lower third of the baby's esophagus has not yet fully developed. Therefore, after feeding, the stomach swells to generate pressure, and the contraction strength of the sphincter is not strong enough to prevent the food from the stomach from regurgitating, so babies often spit up and overflow milk. This condition is more common in newborns.

What should I do if the baby spills milk?

1. First of all, when milk overflow occurs, mothers should pay attention to whether their milk intake is excessive. The amount of milk that the baby eats into the stomach is too much to absorb all of it, so it spills out. Feed in moderation, don't be afraid that the baby will not eat enough and feed desperately, as long as the baby doesn't feel hungry, this amount is enough.

2. If the baby spills milk, the mother can turn the baby's body sideways in time. This allows the milk to flow out of the baby's mouth as quickly as possible, so as to avoid sucking residual milk into the lungs. Wait for the baby to lie on its side before cleaning the milk from the corners of the baby's mouth.

3. When the baby hiccups after feeding, hold the baby upright, and then gently pat his back to help the baby get rid of the gas inhaled during feeding. This can also improve the situation of overflowing milk.

How to prevent newborn milk overflow?

1. Avoid feeding your baby too quickly. When breastfeeding, the mother can first press the milk ducts of the breast milk a few times, and the milk flow will slow down, so that the child should not eat too fast.

2. Avoid starving the baby. If the baby is starved for a long time, it is easy to eagerly suck when feeding again, which will easily swallow air into the stomach. Once gas enters the body, the baby will burp and spit out the milk.

3. Pay attention to the breastfeeding posture. To feed the baby, keep the upper body straight, so that the baby can drink the milk into the stomach without overflowing. Because the baby's stomach is different from that of an adult, it is in a horizontal position. If mothers breastfeed in a lying position, there must be no way for the milk to enter the baby's gastrointestinal tract smoothly.
