Newborn breastfeeding methods

Published by Dailys 2024-03-06

Breastfeeding is when a mother gives her milk to her baby after giving birth until the baby can eat other things. Breastfeeding actually has a lot of knowledge that new mothers need to learn and master gradually and breastfeeding will also encounter many problems. Let's talk about how to breastfeed your newborn.

1. Time: At present, it is advocated to breastfeed immediately after childbirth. Normal full-term newborns can be breastfed within half an hour after birth, which can prevent neonatal hypoglycemia and promote breast milk secretion. The baby's sucking on the nipple can also stimulate the mother's milk production, which is a good start to breastfeeding. Early breastfeeding can reduce postpartum hemorrhage in mothers.

2. Method: For the correct breastfeeding method, the thumb of one hand and the other four fingers should be placed on the upper and lower sides of the breast respectively, and the breast should be held up into a straight cone. When breastfeeding, the mother's body must be relaxed, lean forward slightly, support the baby's neck and back with the base of the palm, and support the baby's head with four fingers. When breastfeeding, the baby should be picked up and fed during the day and at night. The juice on the empty side can be emptied to better stimulate the resecretion of the mammary glands. Before feeding, wash your nipples, express a few drops, and then let your baby eat.

3. The frequency of breastfeeding: The newborn should start breastfeeding after birth, and implement breastfeeding from time to time as needed. Babies need to breastfeed frequently in the 4-8 days after birth to promote a rapid increase in the amount of breast milk. For lethargic or quiet infants, frequent daytime breastfeeding should be given to meet the nutritional needs of their growth and development.

4. Breastfeeding at night: postpartum fatigue, coupled with constant feeding and changing diapers during the day, the mother is very sleepy at night. When the child is crying at night, the mother sometimes shoves the nipple into the child's mouth, and the child stops crying after feeding, and the mother may fall asleep again, which is very dangerous. Because the child is very close to the mother when breastfeeding, the sleeping mother does not know even if the breast is pressing the child's nostril, so tragedy may happen. To avoid this from happening, it is best for the mother to sit up for breastfeed at night.
